District-Wide Landowner Forum June 27, 2024

North Platte NRD Announces District-Wide Landowner Forum

The North Platte Natural Resources District will be holding a district-wide meeting on Thursday, June 27, 2024. The meeting will provide updates on the upcoming changes to the Rules and Regulations that should be effective by the end of the 2024. The forum will be at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport, and the event will start at 7:00 p.m. MDT.  The meeting is free, and refreshments will be provided.

The NPNRD is acutely aware that this is a very busy time for our ag producers. We realize having a landowner meeting this time of year can be difficult to attend. Due to time constraints beyond our control, we must have informational meetings such as these to keep our producers informed. We want to be completely transparent with potential new rules regarding nutrient management.

There is a statewide concern with Nitrate contamination. The NPNRD is committed to addressing this issue. The intent of the North Platte NRD is to keep local control. The best way to do that is to show improvement in the Nitrate contamination.

The NPNRD is primarily focused on groundwater. However, due to the nature of Nitrate application, the NRD is including surface water acres in the new rules concerning Nitrate Application. We understand that this includes landowners that have not been regulated by the NRD previously. We want to make improvements to the groundwater with as little disruption to farming practices as possible. Many of the practices being considered have already been adopted by producers throughout the district.

We look forward to seeing you in Bridgeport on June 27th. We want to hear from you.
