The Board of Directors and Staff from the North Platte NRD are pleased to announce an amazing opportunity for all area ag producers to attend a crop production workshop presented by Brian Hefty from Ag Ph.D. Brian and his brother, Darren Hefty, are known for their innovative and progressive approaches in crop production. The Hefty brothers take time out of their busy farming life to give other farmers insight into crop and pasture management through their television program Ag PhD seen on RFD TV as well as podcasting and video production accessed through their website @ www.agphd.com. That information can also be heard at Ag PhD Radio daily at 2:00 p.m. CST on Sirius XM Radio channel 147.

On Tuesday, January 23rd, at the Gering Civic Center, Brian will be discussing with producers his experiences in crop production and how proper nutrient management practices can affect your bottom line while at the same time guard and protect our natural resources. The tagline Brian is using for the symposium is “Big Yields. Clean Water. We Can Have Both”. The focus of the day will be on the management of nutrients, and how we can successfully feed the crop we are raising while shooting for great yields without sacrificing ground and surface water quality. Some of the other topics covered in the session will be understanding your soil test; control of weeds, insects, nematodes, and other diseases; and discussion on nitrogen replacement biologicals. The day will conclude with a short presentation from the North Platte NRD staff regarding nutrient management in the District, and how best management practices fit into the statutory requirements of the NRD’s in the protection of groundwater quality.

It is the hope of all of us here at the North Platte NRD that you can find some time to come out and spend the day with Brian and the North Platte NRD Staff as we discuss these topics that are so important to the economic and natural resource health of our District. Don’t forget to add to your calendar the Ag PhD/NPNRD Ag Symposium on January 23rd, 2024 at the Gering Civic Center in Gering Nebraska.
