2021 Water Tour, and NE Water Conference to be Held in Person

2021 Water Tour, and Nebraska Water Conference to be Held in Person

Organizers of the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce 2020 Water Tour and of the Nebraska Water Center’s (NWC) Fall Water Conference in consultation with public health experts are excited to announce that both events will be held live and in-person in 2021.  The Conference will be held on August 16, 2021, at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center (PHREC) in Scottsbluff and will be followed by the annual water tour of the Platte River Project on August 17 and 18, 2021.  “Consider this your ‘Save the Date’ announcement,” said John Berge, General Manager of the North Platte Natural Resources District (NPNRD) and Co-Chair of the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce Water Tour Committee.

“It was out of an abundance of caution to protect the health of attendees and presenters that we took the action to delay this event for a year, but we are excited to plan for a successful event here in 2021,” said Nebraska Water Center Director Dr. Chittaranjan Ray.  A semi-annual event, the Nebraska Water Conference routinely draws crowds of 150-200 people, and expectations are for a high attendance of this year’s rebooted Water Tour.  “We are planning on using two buses in anticipation of a tour group numbering over 90, and there will be some modifications to the tour that we are very excited about, including a group dinner and panel discussion and the use of multimedia devices to learn more about the sites and history of the North Platte Project during the two-day tour,” added Karen Anderson, Executive Director of the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce.  “We are very excited to get these important events off the ground for 2021,” added Berge.  “There is still a great deal of planning that we need to finalize and a more formal announcement of registration opportunities for both events will come later in the summer – stay tuned.”

Beginning in 1989, the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee has hosted a Water Tour of the North Platte Project in the North Platte Valley to educate business leaders, agricultural leaders, governmental organizations, and other interested parties about the irrigation system in the area. This has been a wildly popular event and a successful venture for three decades.  Proceeds from the event help to fund the Agribusiness Scholarship Fund. Sponsors of the tour from 2020 were given the option to carry forward their donations to the 2021 event.
