USGS Ground Water Levels for Nebraska

Groundwater levels throughout the North Platte NRD are constantly fluctuating. Influences include relationship to surface water, seasonal trends and increased use. In addition to the nearly 600 NRD monitoring wells located throughout the district, we also use U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) monitoring sites to collect data for groundwater levels.

Of the 21 USGS monitoring well sites in the state, 15 are located within the NPNRD. You can access real-time or 30-day average groundwater level readings from a USGS site near you, as well as precipitation data, at the USGS website. (see link at left).

The USGS published report, "Age and Quality of Ground Water and Sources of Nitrogen in the Surficial Aquifers in Pumpkin Creek Valley, Western Nebraska, 2000" provides information about the age of groundwater in the Pumpkin Creek Basin, generalized groundwater flow paths and the like sources of nitrogen in surface water and groundwater samples at selected locations in Pumpkin Creek Valley.
