About Nebraska's NRDs

NeRAIN website

The NebraskaRainfall Assessment and Information Network (NeRain) needs volunteers to check backyard rain gauges and provide daily rainfall reports. To volunteer locally, call Resources Coordinator Greg Jackson at 308-632-2749.

The NPNRD, in cooperation with the Oregon Trail Chapter of Pheasants Forever and the Nebraska Environmental Trust, has available a Great Plains 7-foot no-till grass drill available for rent. Details at Pheasants Forever website

Nonpoint-source (NPS) pollution is a major water concern. Ag chemicals that leach from or run off fields; motor oil from urban streets; and sediment from erosion of unprotected land are all problems. Use these BMPs to protect our resources, whether you are a major producer or backyard farmer.

"Your Local Voice for Natural Resources Management"

The North Platte NRD is one of 23 Natural Resources Districts in the state of Nebraska.  It covers 3.2 million acres in Scotts Bluff, Morrill, Garden, Banner and southern Sioux Counties. It is governed by a nine member Board of Directors and has a Staff of 18 regular employees. Learn more About Us...

The North Platte Natural Resources District requires the installation and use of flow meters on all regulated wells within the overappropirated area of the district. If you had difficulty meeting the May 1st deadline for flow meter installation, call or stop by our office immediately to request a Flow Meter Deadline Extension form and to be considered for a deadline extension.

  Buffalograss Seeding Program a Success

The North Platte NRD approved 28 applications into its new Seeding for Savings Buffalograss cost rebate program. The program is now closed for the 2008 season, but will be offered again next spring. Several of those homeowners are now seeding their plots. Follow their successes and challenges and read more about buffalograss here.

Three Panhandle NRD's (North Platte, South Platte, and Upper Niobrara-White) are working cooperatively to promote no tillage farming practices while Panhandle No Till Educator Mark Watson continues to write his weekly columns "No Till Notes."   How is the Upper Platte Basin Snowpack?

It is vital that we understand the relationship between the condition of the snowpack in the upper North Platte River Basin and water supplies here in our district. View the current Snow Survey data here.

Keep Well Registrations Up To Date

All water wells must be registered with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. Improperly registered wells can slow the certification process, disqualify landowners from some programs and are considered illegal.

Know Your Ground Water Levels - USGS Info.

In addition to the nearly 600 monitoring wells located throughout the North Platte NRD, we also use U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) monitoring sites to collect data for groundwater levels. Of the 21 USGS monitoring well sites in the state, 15 are located within the NPNRD.

Know Nebraska's Water Law - DNR Info.

Legislative Bill 962, Nebraska's law on the integrated management of surface water and ground water, became effective on July 16, 2004.  At that time much of the Platte River Basin, including the North Platte NRD, was declared overappropriated and required to develop an Integrated Management Plan (IMP).
